2. Statement about Tax Deductible Gifts
World Outreach Ministries, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 1979. All donations to World Outreach Ministries, Inc. are tax deductible as allowed by law. In accordance with IRS guidelines, charitable contributions are made with the understanding that WOM and its Board of Directors have complete control and discretion over the use of all funds for our stated purpose of Christian missionary work. WOM has a standing policy to honor a donor's preference for any of our pre-approved missionary outreaches, as long as they remain in good standing with WOM. In the rare event that a mission worker is no longer in good standing and their account must be closed, any remaining funds will be applied to the ongoing work of our missionary agency.
3. Statement about Ministry Support vs. Public Solicitation & Charities
WOM and its affiliated missionaries do not engage in public solicitation as outlined below. The requirement that some States have for Charity "registration" is designed to protect the public from scams and unauthorized public canvassing for funds. Some Charities (and larger ministries) hire commercial solicitors and fundraising companies to actively canvas the public for donations. WOM does not. These efforts include things like purchasing mailing lists for mass mailings, organized telephone drives using public phone lists, door-to-door appeals, standing on street corners with buckets during Christmas, and other cold-call type methods. Any Charity or ministry engaged in these types of commercial appeals should follow the additional process for Charity "registration." However, WOM (and its affiliated missionaries) do not engage in those types of public canvassing. A WOM missionary who speaks in churches, receptions, support banquets, or even one-on-one appointments is not canvassing the public, but simply sharing with friends, acquaintances, and people who have voluntarily chosen to attend those Church and ministry functions. This is very different than public solicitation as described above. One of the advisors we consulted stated it this way: "Doing business generally means that you have nexus in that State - i.e. you have an office or an employee in that State engaged in public solicitation. You are definitely okay from that standpoint in that WOM missionaries are not employees (they are independent mission workers) and make no appeals for World Outreach. States want to keep tabs on solicitation activities in order to protect the public. WOM and its affiliated mission workers do not solicit funds from the public and thus would not be subject to the additional step that some States require for Charity 'registration' and filing." It is true that many Charities and larger ministries engage in various forms of public solicitation and therefore should follow the steps to register as a Charity within certain States.
