Services & Resources That Will Help You

The Sections below will guide you to a host of tools, resources, and training materials designed to help you succeed. Also, here are some additional services that we want you to be aware of. Please try to give us a couple of days lead-time when requesting special letters:

  • Mission Worker’s ID Cards – a mission worker’s ID Card can help at times with airline tickets, baggage waivers or discounts, customs, and entry into hospitals and prisons. We can provide you with an official WOM "Mission Worker’s ID Card" upon request. If this would help your situation, please go to Section 24 below for the details on how to request your card.
  • Visa letter – some countries require you to provide a letter that verifies your active status as a mission worker, the organization that is sponsoring you, and your source of income (see Section 22 below).
  • Employment letter – we can provide an employment letter that verifies your good standing with WOM and your source of income. Examples where this may apply are when you are renting or purchasing a home, automobile, etc. Usually your personal Tax Statements are sufficient for most situations, but at times they may also require a letter from your employer (technically, you are not a W2 employee, but we can provide the type of letter that will satisfy them).
  • Baggage waiver letter – some airlines will waive or reduce the cost for baggage, depending on the items you are carrying (i.e. medical equipment, supplies, etc.). If they request a letter from your mission organization, we can provide one.
  • Missionary status letter – in some situations, you may be asked to provide a letter that states that you are in good standing with your mission organization.
  • Income verification letter – we can provide a letter that verifies that WOM is your mission office, that you have monthly income, and in some cases what your Annual income is (we can estimate it from your average monthly income).
  • Miscellaneous letters – there are many different types of letters that you may need through the years. If you have a sample of what is being required, that will be very helpful. We can usually provide the type of letter that you need for most situations.

Additionally, this accounting firm offers WOM missionaries a significant discount. You need a professional Tax Preparer and we recommend this accounting firm. You can easily work with them by email each year regardless of your location. See Sections 14 & 15 below. Additionally, if your income is approximately $2,000 or more per month, listen to MI104-2 next on “Missionaries & LLC’s.”
MI104-2 "Missionaries & LLC’s" - O’Brian & Kelly LLC accounting firm
Has your WOM income grown to around $2,000 or more per month? If so, forming a “ministry” LLC may be a great step to take. In this interview, Jason and Brian discuss the benefits and responsibilities of forming an LLC. An LLC allows you to better separate your ministry expenses from your personal income. You can purchase airline tickets, ministry supplies, and ministry equipment directly from your LLC. Listen to this interview as Jason and Brian highlight how this step may be right for you. All you need is a few hosts to get started – who will invite their friends for an evening of fellowship, finger foods, and hearing you share about your mission work. It’s a simple approach for support-building that anyone can do. Listen to this audio to get started. Also, see Section 10 below and watch video TR102 on building support.

In this interview, Mark shares about their journey of faith and how discovering your place on the mission field is a battle and a “process” -- and not necessarily an event. Mark shares powerful insights on areas such as stepping out in faith, attending language school, facing discouragements, trusting God for finances, planting churches, and the importance of leadership training. Whether you are new to the mission field or have years of experience, this interview will encourage you.

Do you need to increase your support-base? Jason conducted two powerful interviews on the concept of "Missionary Receptions." You should make Missionary Receptions a permanent part of your planning each year. All you need is a few hosts to get started – who will invite their friends for an evening of fellowship, finger foods, and hearing you share about your mission work. It’s a simple approach for support-building that anyone can do. Listen to this audio to get started. Also, see Section 10 below and watch video TR102 on building support.
MI106 "Discovering Your Place on the Mission Field" - Missionary Mark Kuzdas (Costa Rica)
Mark and Meg Kuzdas celebrated their 15th year as missionaries in Costa Rica (as of 2017). They know what it’s like to start with nothing and see a beautiful ministry center develop through the years.
MI107 "YWAM & Discipleship Training Schools (DTS)" - Missionary Dustin Campbell
Dustin and Haydee Campbell have helped pioneer YWAM bases all over the world. In this interview, Dustin shares powerful insights and keys for raising-up disciples and leaders. Whatever your mission focus may be, this recording will inspire you with ideas and discipleship keys that can become a part of your own vision. Jesus commands us to, “Go into all the world and make disciples” (Mt 28:19). YWAM is the largest interdenominational mission force in the world with over 20,000 staff people. YWAM is a wonderful place to grow in Christ and discover your place on the mission field (www.ywam.org). At the time of this interview, Dustin has been with YWAM 21 years and with WOM 19 of those years! Like all the missionaries we serve, Dustin needed a dependable home office to process his support.
MI108 "Small Discipleship Groups" - Missionaries Jack & Carolyn Hill
Small Discipleship Groups can be a vital part of whatever type of outreach you are doing – or, they can even be your main focus for ministry. Jack and Carolyn Hill have been with WOM for several years and have 40+ years of experience with discipleship groups through a ministry called the Navigators. This interview highlights the power of small discipleship groups and how you can implement them into your ministry. The Great Commission commands us to “make disciples” and not just converts. In 2 Timothy 2:2, the apostle Paul lays out the pattern for multiplying ourselves through training “faithful men and women” who will be able to teach others also. This dynamic and informative interview will help you discover the power of small discipleship groups and how to get started. Helpful PDF link
MI109 "Leadership Equipping & Conferences" - Missionary Paul Landrey
This interview will light your fire for leadership training! Leadership development is a critical need in the body of Christ. Regardless of what ministry the Lord has you focused on, equipping leaders is important -- you need to multiply yourself! Paul Landrey shares the “nuts & bolts” for equipping leaders from his lifetime of experience. He was one of the original founders and the first Director of www.Topic.us – a ministry dedicated to sponsoring leadership conferences and modules in many nations around the world. MI110 "Increasing Your Contact List & Support Base" - Missionaries Levi & Jackie Davis
How can you increase your Contact List without having to return to the States? How can you increase your support-base? This refreshing interview with Missionaries Levi and Jackie Davis in Guatemala will give you unique and new ideas for taking it to the next level. For example, they were able to double their Contact list in just a few days (not weeks or months – but in just a few days) by applying one simple key on Facebook. They also share powerful ideas about planning receptions, how to maximize visiting teams that come to the field, the importance of a monthly e-Newsletter, and how www.MailChimp.com helps them accomplish their goals. This is a “must listen” if you are serious about increasing your Contact List and Support Base.
MI111 "Trusting God to be Fully Funded" – Aaron Gonyou, founder of the "Unmuzzled Ox"
Aaron Gonyou believes that mission workers should be fully funded! He is the founder of “The Unmuzzled Ox” ( www.UnmuzzledOx.com ) that helps missionaries all over the world learn how to trust God in the area of support. It’s not enough to have a burning “vision” in your heart – you also need God’s “provision” to see it happen. Aaron’s insights and keys will give you a solid Biblical foundation for experiencing increase. In fact, we believe in Aaron’s training so much, that WOM has an agreement with Aaron’s organization to provide WOM mission workers with 4-months of online training at no cost to you ( www.UnmuzzledOx.com/WOM ) -- WOM pays the bill! This Telephone Interview will strengthen your faith to become fully funded.
MI112 "Plan a Reading Glasses Day & Draw Crowds!"
Imagine what an inexpensive way to draw crowds can do for your ministry! When you plan a "Reading Glasses Day" hundreds will be helped with free reading glasses – and they can be connected to your church, evangelistic campaign, etc. They only cost 50 cents per pair – so you can purchase a bag of 300 for only $150! Think of it! You can literally change lives and improve the quality of life by restoring people’s ability to see clearly, work with their hands, read the Bible again, and in many cases become employable again. 1) Watch this 3-Minute Video to catch the vision, 2) Listen to this Telephone Interview to hear details, and 3) Print this PDF to explore this opportunity and get started. See Section 23 below for more details.
MI113 "Changing & Adapting with God's Assignments" - Missionaries Kasey & Esther Smith
Kasey and Esther are missionaries in Guatemala, Central America. In this interview, they share timeless principles about the need to adapt and change in order to succeed as a mission worker. At times, we all face open doors, closed doors, new seasons, and challenges that require us to change and adapt.  SECTION 3: e-NEWSLETTERS & SAMPLES

Frequency of e-Newsletters

In order for you to keep your WOM account in “good standing” you must send regular e-Newsletters about your work (or, simple email updates) – and you must complete an Annual Report each year (www.WorldOutreach.org/report). We strongly encourage "Monthly" e-Newsletters or email updates -- but Quarterly Newsletters are the minimum. It only makes sense if you want your friends to keep supporting you and your home office to stay informed about your ministry work. Additionally, there are IRS guidelines that we must comply with when we are depositing ministry funds to your Bank Account. For details about these items, go here: www.WorldOutreach.org/requirements.

  1. Before you send a newsletter to your contacts, it is super important that you watch our Training Video TR103 "Effective Newsletters". Jason covers the critical elements that you need to incorporate if you want an attractive newsletter that gets read and generates support for your work. Learn what works!
  2. Also, you can learn how to incorporate short video clips in your e-Newsletters. If you have a smart phone you can make simple videos! Go to Section 16 below on "How to Create Short Videos." Make it a goal to add video clips to your e-Newsletter at least quarterly. Anyone can do 4 per year!
  3. Always, always, always incorporate the "how-to-give" info at the end of your e-Newsletters! See Section 6 below for the info.
  4. Almost all of our missionaries use one of the following companies for sending their monthly e-Newsletters. www.Epistle.today has a wonderful system that allows you to integrate your newsletters with your own website (all for only $12 per month). Their system is easy to use and gives you a professional image and presence on the internet. Simply use the "how-to-give" info that we provide in all your newsletters and website. Here’s a sample from one of our missionaries: Shay Bryan Campus Missionary. Notice her "Give" button takes people to her WOM Donation Page for processing credit and debit cards, setting up automatic monthly gifts, etc. Another company that we recommend (and is free) is www.MailChimp.com. They have colorful templates for designing your e-Newsletters and sending them out, but do not offer a website. Either company will work well for sending your e-Newsletters -- but www.Epistle.today includes a website. There are many other email marketing companies like www.ConstantContact.com that you can also explore by searching on the internet.
  5. For those times that you want to schedule snail-mailed newsletters (printed newsletters that are mailed to your friends), here’s a group that will design, print, and mail your newsletters for you. You can organize mailings from anywhere in the world - www.ChalkLine.org
  6. Special Note: Also see Section 6 below for the “how-to-give” info. You should use your personal donation link in your newsletters. Our general link for Online Donations is WorldOutreach.org/donations. However, you should use your own personal link like this: WorldOutreach.org/fundcode. 1) Here are two samples to give you the idea – www.WorldOutreach.org/48 and www.WorldOutreach.org/27. 2) Test your Fund Code. One suggestion before sending out newsletters -- develop the habit of always sending yourself a test copy to verify that your links are working properly. If you need to upload your photo and ministry summary, login to your WOM account, click on the “Personal” tab at the top, and follow the prompts. If you have trouble, you can always email them to us and we will upload them for you.
  7. Promote the Social Media links on your Donation Page: Just think what could happen if your friends started using the Social Media links on your Donation Page! They can introduce you to their friends around the world via Social Media. How much easier is that than you getting on jet and returning home for meetings to meet new people? Here’s are two graphics that you can use in your newsletters to promote the social media links. You can copy and paste the samples shown below or create your own design for newsletters, updates and emails. If you are single, you will need to modify the text slightly. Make sure to use YOUR FUND CODE for the link to your own Donation Page.

 SECTION 6: WOM’s "HOW-TO-GIVE" DETAILS (Giving Info)
It is imperative that you ALWAYS include WOM's "how-to-give" info in your communication tools – newsletters, postcards, outgoing emails, business cards, website, blog, Facebook, etc. It becomes irritating for your friends if they have to do research to figure out how to support you -- make it easy for them! It is your responsibility to include the "how-to-give" info at the end of ALL your communication tools. You can use the different formats shown below for different tools – emails, newsletters, etc.

Special Note: You should use your personal donation link in the suggested texts below. Our general link for Online Donations is WorldOutreach.org/donations. However, you should use your personal link like this: WorldOutreach.org/yourfundcode. 1) Here are two samples to give you the idea – www.WorldOutreach.org/48 and www.WorldOutreach.org/27. 2) Now, test your Fund Code. One suggestion – before sending out newsletters, you should develop the habit of always sending yourself a test copy to verify that all links are working properly. [If you need to upload your photo and ministry summary, login to your WOM account, click on the “Personal” tab at the top, and follow the prompts]. Also see Section 3 above on Newsletters.

 I. Formats

Format #1: At a minimum, put this at the end of ALL outgoing emails, updates, newsletters, handouts, cards, etc. Make it a part of your signature section in emails (put it after your name). It's a low-key approach that will make it convenient for friends to easily support you.

  1. Thank You For Your Support!
www.WorldOutreach.org/XXX (use your fund code/direct link)

Additional one-line prompts that you can use in place of "Thank You For Your Support!"

 II. Use Your QR Code:

Start using your QR Code on all your printed materials (Prayer Cards, handouts, fact sheets, printed newsletters, business cards, etc.). Basically, a QR Code is a symbol (see samples below) that will take people directly to your Donation Page. To see how this works, simply open the camera in your smart phone (as if you were going to take a picture) and hover over the QR Code -- then tap the link you will see. Many people like this type of shortcut on printed materials.

  1. QR Code Generator – There are many free QR Code generators. Go here to create your QR Code:
QRCode-Monkey.com. Enter the link that you want people to go to. For example, your Donation Page: https://www.WorldOutreach.org/XXX (put your fund code at the end).
  2. Once created, test the image and confirm that the QR code is correct, and takes you to your Donation Page. Tap the link that shows up.
  3. Start adding your QR Code on all printed materials next to the “How-to-Give” section – Prayer Cards, printed newsletters, business cards, etc.

III. WOM’s "Cars to Cash" Program:

Additionally, consider adding another box or section at the end of your Newsletters, that tells donors how they can easily donate cars, trucks, boats, RV’s, and motorcycles. Scroll down to SECTION 18 for the info and graphics that you need. This is an avenue that can create another stream of ministry income for your outreach throughout the year.

 SECTION 7: MAIL FORWARDING AND
COMPANIES THAT CAN, PRINT & MAIL
 NEWSLETTERS, POSTCARDS, etc.
  1. Mail Forwarding
If you need your USA personal mail forwarded to you (either physically forwarded or scanned and sent by email) – then you can do what most of our families do. Most missionaries simply ask a family member or trusted friend to handle this for them. Another option is to use one of the companies listed below. Look at their plans and see if one fits your needs. You can also google "mail forwarding services" to compare more companies.

  2. spacer1) iPostal1

  3. Companies to Print & Mail Newsletters, Postcards, etc.
Here’s a unique idea that some of our families use. There are different companies that allow you to design Newsletters, "personalized" Postcards, Thank-You-Cards, etc. all online! They will print them and mail them to the list you provide. It's a way to send "personal looking" mailers to your contacts from time to time. You can even "target" who you send them to: for example, only to a selected number of people like Top Donors, Key Pastors, those who have fallen inactive, etc. Your supporters will appreciate receiving something special from time to time. Check-out these links and see if they can help supplement your other forms of communication.

  4. *As always, be sure to include WOM's "how-to-give" info so that your friends can easily respond -- see the abbreviated version below for Postcards and Thank-You-Notes. Also see the Section 6 above for the info that you should use in other communication tools (e-Newsletters, websites, blogs, Facebook, etc.).

SECTION 9: LOGGING IN TO YOUR PERSONAL WOM ACCOUNT
Each WOM missionary is given a personal login account, accessed by their own password. Your initial Username & Password will be issued to you once we have your mailing list input into our system (you must send us your mailing list using the unique Mailing List Template that we provide in your Orientation Email #1 (we can resend it if needed). You must use our unique Template and not try to create your own, or it will not import properly. Here's how you can easily learn how to use our Login System: 1) Print our PDF Training Guide and 2) Watch our Training Video: TR101 WOM Login Software.

  1. How to Login? Save this link in your "Favorites" so that you can login directly each time: wom.DenariOnline.com
  2. You can also Login by going the World Outreach website and finding the Missionary Login link in the upper right corner of our home page. www.WorldOutreach.org
  3. You will need to upload your Photo & Ministry Summary in order for your personal Donation Page to best represent you. If you do not, then the system defaults to a generic "World Map" type of image. To upload your Photo & Summary, login to your WOM account, click on the "PERSONAL" section and follow the prompts. Here are two samples to show you what the personal Donation Pages look like: www.WorldOutreach.org/48 and www.WorldOutreach.org/27 -- now try it with your Fund Code at the end. That is your unique direct link to your Donation Page, which should be listed at the end of all emails, newsletters, updates, prayer cards, etc.
 SECTION 10: APPOINTMENTS & RECEPTIONS
Appointments & Receptions will help your income grow much faster! For more Info: 1) Training Video TR-110 on "Maximizing Appointments & Visiting Teams" 2) Missionary Interview MI105 on "Building Support Through Receptions" and 3) Training Video TR102 on "Building a Strong Support Base." Here are two samples of Reception invitations: Sample 1 spacer|spacer Sample 2

Here are some powerful tools for increasing your support-base! Pray about these ideas for the next time you are in the States – or, if you are still preparing to depart. You can also use these ideas when you have Teams visit on the mission field. Long-term missionaries (as opposed to short-term workers) need ongoing support.

Once you catch the vision for "Appointments & Receptions" it will put you in the driver's seat – instead of waiting for pastors to invite you. Or, if you have teams visiting on the mission field, use those opportunities to share before they leave. One of the common complaints that we hear from missionaries is that it is difficult to get into churches to speak. There are several reasons why this is the case [and Appointments & Receptions are the cure]. Since 2008, when the global recession hit, churches have seen a drastic drop in their own incomes. This is one of the main reasons that churches cut back on the number of speakers they have. And then came the COVID-19 Pandemic. Another reason is that some pastors see a missionary as "competition" for funds. It's sad but true . . .

So, what is the solution for Mission Workers?
 APPOINTMENTS & RECEPTIONS!

1) ONE-ON-ONE APPOINTMENTS - This method allows you to stay busy by meeting with key individuals and business people one-on-one. Basically, this is when you simply meet someone for coffee or lunch. When you call them, be sure to tell them upfront that you want to meet with them and share what the Lord has been doing in your ministry (or what your vision for the future is if you are just starting). Thus, when you meet with them there are no surprises. This is very important. Then, you meet, share, listen, answer questions, and give them your Prayer Card and literature. Prayer Challenge: at the end, ask them to pray about “adopting you” as their missionary and becoming a new sponsor. Assure them that there is zero pressure. Be sure to give them your Prayer Card or handout that has your Donation Page link on it (so that they can easily respond when they are ready). You will be surprised! Some people will make a decision right on the spot, and others will want time to think about it. If you handle things right, there is no need for pressure or manipulation. Let the Lord do His work. It can be a relaxing time of fellowship and vision-casting. Then, in 3-4 days, give them a follow-up call, ask if they have any questions and remind them again about your Donation Page link. Your page makes it easy for them to sign-up as a monthly sponsor.

2) LIVE & IN-PERSON RECEPTIONS - Here’s how this method works. Basically, before you plan your next visit home to the States (or if you are still preparing to depart for the field) - take a proactive approach (via emails and phone calls) to line up key friends who will volunteer as HOSTS to organize a Reception for you. [By the way - your WOM log-in account allows you to create sub-lists within your Mailing List and code friends as "Hosts."] To grasp the idea, think in terms of what friends do when they host baby showers, wedding showers, graduation receptions, etc. in their homes. It's really the old idea of friends-helping-friends on a grassroots level. Even in the New Testament, the apostle Paul seems to have held most of his meetings in homes. All you need are a few HOSTS who will open their homes and invite friends to come and hear you share. Start with 1-2 Hosts and let it grow from there.

Wouldn't you like to return to the States to your own schedule? (Also, see below on how to plan Receptions remotely.) Wouldn’t it be nice to not worry about whether pastors will invite you to speak or not? [And, if you have Teams visit you on the field, then you can plan the last evening with them to officially share about sponsorship, using the same ideas].

All it takes is 1-2 Hosts to get started. You start by simply developing a short HOST LIST and then prayerfully contact them with the idea. You, your spouse, a family member, or someone who is good at event-planning will work with each host. You can even use WOM as a good reason that you are planning Receptions - just blame it on us! Simply say (which is true) - "My home office is encouraging all their mission workers to plan Receptions & Appointments to share our outreach with others." When you contact your friends, explain the Reception idea and then let them run with it. Your Host will do all the work, make the phone calls, invite their friends, and have refreshments. They can even enlist the help of their own friends in the planning - just like someone who plans a baby shower, etc. Make sure your Host tells everyone that a missionary friend (you!) from "XYZ Country" will be sharing (or calling in if it’s a remote Reception). They should explain that it will be an evening of refreshments, fellowship, and then a brief presentation with photos, PowerPoint, or whatever you have. Thus, no one is taken by surprise when they attend. Then, on the appointed night, you take about 20-30 minutes to thank everyone for coming / share about your vision / the value of your outreach / your budget goals / pass out a Fact Sheet, Prayer Card, etc. / and collect new names, addresses, and hopefully new supporters. At the end, your Host asks everyone to do several things: 1) Fill-out the forms you provide (a prayer card, pledge card, or a simple handout) with their name and email address (everyone can do this part), 2) Indicate a monthly gift if they are ready to do so (some will want to take your info home and pray about it), and 3) Ask everyone who may want to write a check on the spot to make checks payable to: “World Outreach Ministries” with your name in the memo - and all gifts are Tax Deductible. When the event is concluded, you and your Host will mail the checks and a copy of the cards to the WOM office for processing to your account (you should follow-up each one with a "Thank You" card). It's an awesome way to expand build your contacts and support-base! Always send the checks, cards, etc. in a Priority Envelope (cardboard style) that the Post Office supplies. If you have visiting Teams, then use this same idea the last night of their trip. Their hearts will be open after spending time with you on the mission field.

spacerHere's a great tool that you and your hosts can use to personally invite people to your Reception event. It's a free App that can be downloaded from the App store for Apple or Google. The name of the App is "Evite: Party Invitations." It's a simple platform to help you design and send e-invitations. It will help you and your hosts organize your Receptions – whether you are doing a "live & in person" event or a Zoom style conference call.

3) REMOTE RECEPTIONS - This method is very similar, but you will be calling-in by phone, Skype, Zoom, etc. to greet the Reception group. It's an awesome way for you to expand your support-base without the "wear & tear" of a long trip home. We all know that a return trip to the States is costly / takes you away from your work / and takes a physical toll on your body. You really owe it to yourself to at least try this approach. Once you do, you will see how easy it is. One of the main keys will be selecting a good HOST. Basically, this is the same idea as outlined above, but you will "show-up" via a phone call, Skype, Zoom, Handouts, PowerPoint, etc. You can do it different ways. Some of our families are starting to do this and love the idea. Your HOST will organize the meeting, have your most recent newsletters to pass out, Fact Sheets, Prayer Cards, PowerPoint or whatever you provide. During the meeting, you will call-in to greet everyone and give a quick report. It can be as simple as putting the Host’s cell phone on "speaker-phone" for the group to listen. Even if you have to get up in the middle of the night to do the call (because of a time difference), that is far less effort than making a trip home! When you share, give a positive report of what is happening and ask people to "adopt you" as their missionary. Tell them the Host will explain the details on how they can become a new sponsor.

After you hang-up, your HOST asks everyone to do several things: 1) Fill-out the forms you provide (a prayer card, pledge card, or a simple handout) with their name and email address (everyone can do this part), 2) Indicate a monthly gift if they are ready to do so (some will want to take your info home and pray about it), and 3) Ask everyone who may want to write a check on the spot to make checks payable to: "World Outreach Ministries" with your name in the memo – and all gifts are Tax Deductible. When the event is concluded, your HOST will mail the checks and cards to our office for processing to your account. It's an awesome way to expand build your contacts and support-base!

So, stop and think for a moment how Appointments & Receptions can revolutionize your budget and make life so much easier! Appointments can work anytime, anywhere. And, with just 1-2 Receptions, you will certainly meet new people who will also want to get involved too. Thus, the next time you could have 3-5 receptions. Over time, you develop your own HOST LIST of key people that will be glad to host a Reception once a year.

With Appointments & Receptions you can finally take control of your own schedule! If you get the opportunity to share in a church, then by all means take it. But here’s the point – with Appointments & Receptions you don’t have to wait for churches to invite you. You can plan your schedule in an orderly, business-like manner in a way that works best for you. Some of our most successful mission workers hardly ever speak in churches because they have learned to do Appointments and Receptions.

    CONSIDER APPOINTMENTS & RECEPTIONS IF . . .

  1. If you are already on the field and do not want to return to the States to raise funds (use the “Remote” Reception idea – see details above).
  2. If you are a new mission worker just getting started and need to build your support base.
  3. If your support-base has “aged” and you need new sponsors.
  4. If you are weary of trying to get into churches to speak.
  5. If you want a less stressful visit the next time you are in the States.
  6. If you have groups or church teams visit you on the mission field - be sure to learn how to share your vision on the last night before they leave! Maximize the moment for your support-base.

  7. Appointments & Receptions are powerful tools for increasing your income!
SECTION 11: CREATING YOUR OWN WEBSITE
 SECTION 11: CREATING
YOUR OWN WEBSITE
We encourage all WOM mission workers to eventually have their own website. It can be a simple site that primarily has photos and updates. If you are new to missions, then this step can wait – but certainly make it a near-future goal. The easiest and least expensive company that we’ve found, which can integrate your website with all your monthly updates, is a group called "Epistle" (you can literally be set-up in an hour for only $12.00 per month): www.Epistle.today. Here's a sample from one of our mission workers: Shay Bryan Campus Missionary. Even without experience, you can do this! Make sure to ALWAYS include the WOM "how-to-give" info in your website so that your friends can easily support your outreach. Make your online "Donate Button" go to the link for your WOM Donation Page: www.WorldOutreach.org/XXX (put your Fund Code at the end). That link will make it easy for anyone to give one-time gifts, set-up automatic monthly gifts, and create a donor-login if they prefer (where they can manage their gifts, see their giving history, change credit cards, print receipts, and more). You can also use a free "embed code generator" to embed your Donation Page on your website, so your friends remain on your page. Here is the free generator tool: ZazzleMedia.co.uk

SECTION 12: HEALTH, TRIP, & LIFE INSURANCE FOR MISSION WORKERS
This section will help you get started in your search for health insurance providers who specialize in missionary coverage. We encourage you to explore their plans / ask them questions / and gather information that is pertinent to your situation.

  1. Life Insurance for Mission Workers – Start with the groups listed below (which are primarily for health & travel insurance) – and inquire about Life Insurance as well. As a mission worker, always make it clear from the beginning that you need coverage that is "global" and not restricted to the USA. They need to know you live (or travel) internationally.

 SECTION 14: TAXES, 1099’s, FILING YOUR 1040, HOUSING ALLOWANCE, & LLC’S
Mission Workers & Taxes - Even in ministry work, you are still responsible for filing your yearly 1040 Personal Tax Return. We provide you with your Form 1099 at the end of each year (which shows the total amount of funds that WOM deposited to your Bank account). Typically, by using the Form 1099 correctly (with the Schedule C to deduct your expenses & project funds) you can end up with less "net taxable income" each year than a W2 employee would - IF you know how to take advantage of qualifying deductions that the IRS allows for mission workers. Additional items that may or may not apply are the Foreign Income Exclusion deduction -- and Forms 1116, 2555, 4565, and an FBAR. Be sure to consult your Tax Preparer. We have a relationship with the accounting firm listed below that has experience helping mission workers. The money you save through qualifying deductions will far exceed their fee. You really need the help of a qualified Tax Preparer who understands the unique needs of a mission worker and the deductions that you can benefit from. You can easily work with them by email. Additional steps that may reduce your tax exposure: 1) Housing Allowance – click on this link WorldOutreach.org/housing for information about applying for a WOM Housing Allowance, 2) Tax Fact Sheet (click here & print) 3) Forming an LLC - If your monthly income is growing and normally more than $2,000 per month, then forming an LLC may be a good step for you to consider. Be sure to listen to the following audios and print the "Missionaries & LLC's PDF" shown below.

Listen to both telephone interviews on taxes. Without exaggeration, this information can save you thousands of dollars.

SECTION 15: HOW TO SHARE PROJECTS, TRACK PROJECTS, & MINIMIZE TAXES
This section will give you creative ideas for sharing your projects with your friends when you need to raise special funds. It could be something as simple as the cost of airline tickets – or more involved projects such as a vehicle, ministry equipment, or a construction project. You will also learn how to "track" project gifts that come in marked for your projects -- and how to deduct your expenses and project costs when you file your taxes.

One of the common questions that we routinely receive is, "Do I need a separate account for ministry projects so that I do not have to pay taxes on those funds?" [The answer is "No" you do not – if you understand how to itemize those expenses on the Schedule C form each year when you file your taxes. To learn about this, listen to the audio interview listed in Section 14 on "Missionaries & Taxes"]. You do not need to pay taxes on qualifying ministry expenses and projects. However, the whole tax issue is very personalized, and we are not tax preparers. As stated in Section 14, you really need to use a qualified Tax Preparer each year who understand missionaries, projects, the Schedule C form, and other deductions that mission workers can use (see the accounting firm that we recommend in Section 14). However, here are some helpful items that will show you how to share your projects and track project funds -- plus, info on how to minimize your taxes.

  1. Sharing Your Projects – when you have a special project, you need to realize that raising funds for projects is a “process” and not a one-time event. In other words, just sending one email about your project will probably not be adequate. You will most likely need to keep the project in front of your friend’s eyes, so to speak, for several months or more. You may want to prepare special packets or make personal calls to people that know you and are behind you. Adding photos to your presentation will always help people "see" and catch the vision for what you are doing (for example, a photo of the type vehicle that you intend to purchase; photos of the land where the building will be built, etc). Be as creative as you can to clearly cast the vision.

If you have more than one project at a time (or a list of items that your project involves), consider using a graphic like this in your newsletters to clearly itemize your projects. Keep the same graphic in your newsletters for as long as it takes to finish the project. It is a low-key way to cast the vision without the need to write special appeals each month.

  2. Consider Sponsoring One of These Projects!
From time to time on the mission field, special needs arise. Pray and consider donating towards these projects to help me see them accomplished. Thank you!

    1. Religious Worker's Visa Application Costs: $750.00 - This is my next visa to stay and work in Thailand. It will cover the next two years.
    2. Annual Health Insurance Cost: $1,500.00 - I need this to legally stay in the country!
    3. Annual Auto Registration Cost: $500.00 - This covers all of the legal fees and mandatory insurance for owning a car in Thailand.

  3. Tracking Your Project Funds – Your WOM login account already has a way to track unlimited Projects. You may not be familiar with this part of the software, but it is called the GIFT NOTES section. When you have a special ministry project (ministry vehicle, equipment, construction, outreach, etc.) you can instruct your donors to designate their gift to your Projects. There’s even a line on the credit card screen for them to do this – and, if they send checks, they can simply indicate your project along with the check. Our Team Members will make a note of the Project in the GIFT NOTES when they enter the donations (gifts must be clearly marked for the Project). It will help if you can give your Project a name and use that name in your newsletters and updates -- like "Jeep Project" / "Feeding Program" / "Church Roof" -- or whatever you are raising funds for. You can easily spot the donations that were sent for your Project by accessing the GIFT NOTES when you login to your WOM account.

  4. spacerHow to View the GIFT NOTES Section when you login:
    1) Login to your WOM account and look for the section called "My Donations."
    2) Then click on the option called "Gift Notes."
    3) You can then choose the Time Frame of your choice: "This Month" "Last Month" "This Year" "Last Year" etc. You can also choose the Notes Filter of your choice: "Gifts with Notes" (which will only show you the donations that have a gift note connected to them) or "Show all Gifts" (which will give you a list of all donations – whether the entry had a gift note or not).
    4) It works great and allows you to see Project gifts and any other notes that our Team members entered when gifts were processed.
    5) Gift Notes give you the ability to have unlimited Project Tracking and see other notes that donors may have sent.

  5. How to Minimize Taxes - As stated above, you really need the help of an accountant who understands mission work. Not all accountants understand the unique deductions and exclusions that the IRS makes available to mission workers (consider using the firm we recommend in Section 14). You should definitely be using the Schedule C form when you file your 1040 Tax Return each year, which can greatly reduce your "net taxable income." The Schedule C allows you to itemize qualifying expenses and project funds – so that your expenses can be subtracted from your total income. (Click here & print) our helpful Tax Fact Sheet to give to your accountant. You can save thousands of dollars through the years by using the information given in our audio-interviews on "Missionaries & Taxes" (see Section 14). A qualified Tax Preparer who understands mission workers can help save you far more money each year than the cost of their fee. Everyone's case is different, so use the accounting firm that we recommend (Section 14) or find one who understands mission workers. You can easily work with them each year via email to file your 1040 Tax Return properly and on time.
SECTION 16: HOW TO CREATE SHORT VIDEOS
You can easily do short videos to send to your contacts and supporters. All you need is a smart phone to get started! People will feel more connected to you and more apt to support you when they “see” you from time to time. Videos can take on various formats – more professional videos (like you might use for a group presentation) or quick ministry clips. Whatever format you use, make sure the audio portion is clear so that everyone can understand what you are saying. Your videos can be used in your e-Newsletters, Facebook, personal emails, etc. Consider doing at least one video clip per quarter to keep your friends connected. Anyone can do 4 per year! Here are several samples to help you grasp the power of short videos. We’ve also included an instructional video that will help you start creating your own easy-to-do ministry videos.

  1. How To Get Started - This video shows you how to get started. For more info, study additional YouTube instructional videos on how to do videos.
  2. Short Ministry Clip - This format is easy to do! Short ministry clips can help your supporters see what you are doing.
  3. Presentation Style - This format shows your overall vision or project and is great for group presentations.
SECTION 17: TABLE TOP DISPLAYS TO ENHANCE YOUR GROUP PRESENTATION
One item that can really help your presentation for groups is a table top display that has photos and a short summary. You want to look professional and make a good impression, whether you are sharing with a home group or a mega church. As you know, any form of visual display (Prayer Cards, newsletters, videos, photos, table top display, etc.) will enhance your presentation and help communicate your vision. Visuals will motivate people to join with you as a financial supporter. Keep in mind the fund-raising principle that we covered in our Training Video on building an effective support-base: “Provision = Pro + Vision” (promoting & communicating your vision leads to provision and income). It just makes sense! People want to be communicated with if you expect them to support your outreach. Here are some links to help you get started in your search for a small table-top display. You want a small system that is super-portable and easy to set-up (remember, you may be traveling by airline, so the smaller the better):

SECTION 18: CARS TO CASH PROGRAM! (Cars, Trucks, RV’s, Boats & Motorcycles)
Here’s an easy way for you to increase your overall income! World Outreach has partnered with another non-profit who specializes in processing vehicle donations. Your contacts can now donate their vehicles in any condition (cars, trucks, RV’s, boats, and motorcycles) and the proceeds will be sent to World Outreach for processing to your account. It’s an awesome way for you to have another stream of ministry income! Your friends will receive a Tax-deductible receipt and you receive extra funds! It’s a Win-Win for everyone. The group we have partnered with makes a complicated process super-easy for your friends. They will pick-up the vehicle for free (whether it runs or not), handle the storage, paperwork, and sale. Here’s how you can announce this program and let your friends know. We suggest that you use the info below to create a box at the end of your e-Newsletters (permanently or from time to time) – or, send a special email blast to your entire list. When you do: 1) Use one of our graphics (click here) in your e-Newsletters and emails to let people know, and 2) Add this line of text below the graphic so that your friends can get started: Details Here: www.WorldOutreach.org/cars

  3. Letter from your Mission Agency – if they require a letter confirming your missionary status, let us know and we can easily provide that for you.
SECTION 20: COACHING FOR INCREASING YOUR SUPPORT-BASE
  1. First, it is imperative that you complete our "Starter Pack" and learn the WOM system. Our Starter Pack will get you well on your way to learning how to become fully funded. Once you complete our Starter Pack. we also make available additional online training for developing your support-base. Our Missionary Agency has a partnership with a training group called "The Unmuzzled Ox." They train mission workers on how to get fully funded and stay that way.
  2. Youth for Christ, YWAM, Pioneers, and other mission groups have benefited from Aaron Gonyou’s professional training. He has a proven track record for helping mission workers like you increase their support and get fully funded. We have an agreement with Aaron’s organization to provide WOM mission workers with 4-months of online training at no cost to you. WOM pays for you!
  3. Aaron’s training can help you reach your budget goals. First, though, make sure you complete our Starter Pack as mentioned above. Then, when you are ready, click on this special link for WOM mission workers only, to get started: www.UnmuzzledOx.com/WOM. We actually pay your fees to get started with their program! (Special Note: WOM does not receive any commission or reimbursement for additional training that you may take from “The Unmuzzled Ox.” We connect you with them, and pay your fee, because we believe in the Bible principles of faith, action, and wisdom -- and we want to help you get fully funded for your mission work.)
  4. Here are two more great groups that WOM workers have used and recommend: "Kingdom Come Training" www.KingdomComeTraining.com / "TF - Tailored Fundraising" www.Tailored.Fund
  5. Your ministry is not just a job – it is your calling, your vision, your God-given vocation. Therefore, apply yourself and gain wisdom from others on how to become fully funded!

You will enjoy these short podcasts that will encourage you and sharpen your skills for being successful as a mission worker.
SECTION 22: VISAS, PASSPORTS & MISSIONARY TRAVEL
Here are some helpful tips and links regarding Visas, Passports, and Missionary Travel. You can compare these travel companies with the ones you normally use. Regarding Visa applications, some countries require you to provide a letter from your employer (home office) to verify your income. If you need a letter verifying missionary status or income, just let us know, and we will be glad to email a letter to you. However, before you request a letter, be sure to ask a lot of questions about what the letter needs to say. Some countries can be very specific about what they want. If they have a template for the letter or specific items that must be included, then let us know. Otherwise, it can delay your whole Visa application.

  1. Visas & Passports - Visa requirements vary from country to country, and can change from month to month. Consider using one of the service providers listed below who will walk your Visa or Passport application through. Though there is a fee for their service, it is well worth it to get things right and save time. If you are already on the field, then be sure to contact the US Embassy and or Consulate in your area, which will be a great source of information. You can also talk with other mission workers who may know the process for your specific country.

SECTION 23: FURLOUGHS, DEPUTATION, VACATIONS, HOSPITALITY HOMES
WOM does not have set limits on the length of Stateside visits, deputation work, furloughs, or vacation times. These types of breaks are a normal part of ministry life. We do ask that you keep our office updated if you plan on being away from ministry for more than a few weeks. We can offer helpful input based on our experience with other workers. Some of that information is presented below -- on how best to communicate with your supporters during these times.

  1. Regarding Hospitality Homes – If you do not have friends or family to stay with, here are several groups who specialize in coordinating "Hospitality Homes" for mission workers. They have contacts all over the country and may be able to arrange short and long-term housing near your preferred location. If you use their services, then let us know if we need to send a reference letter or form to verify that you are an authorized WOM missionary: ServantCare.com, HospitalityHomes.org, and ACandle.WildApricot.org

  2. Regarding Vacations – We believe that vacations are important to a healthy and balanced life. This is especially true when children are involved. Our feeling is that there is no need to announce your vacation trips. You may find that it is counterproductive. This is, of course, a personal decision on your part.

  3. Newsletters & Updates – During longer breaks (visits back to the States, furloughs, and deputation work) you still need to stay current with your e-Newsletters. It is easy to be creative with newsletters even when not directly involved in ministry outreach. Keep in mind that WOM has specific requirements about newsletters. (We prefer monthly – but 4x Quarterly newsletters per year is the absolute minimum. For details about the "why" behind our requirements, review here - WorldOutreach.org/requirements). Here are some creative ideas for doing newsletters when you are away:

    1. News from the ministry home front. If you are still in touch with your ministry team or outreach while away, you can easily report what is happening.
    2. Spotlight cases from past outreaches. Tell stories about people who were reached in the past. Tell their story so that your supporters can catch a vision for what your outreach does. Stories give your friends a "window" into what they are supporting.
    3. Present a ministry prayer list. Create a prayer focus one month and highlight different aspects for prayer. You may want to include a map of the nation you are working in, briefly share the nation's history, and how prayers can make the difference.
    4. Always include at least one photo. Even though you are not directly involved in ministry at this time, include photos from the past or even cultural photos. Your donors would love to “see” glimpses of the culture you work in.
    5. Insights from your personal devotional times. Another way to do a newsletter is to share verses and key thoughts from your own devotional time. Share simple insights that can encourage the hearts of your friends.
    6. Future plans. Another idea for a newsletter is to outline what you envision accomplishing for the future. (However, if you anticipate a big change coming, please reach out to our office first -- not for permission -- but for valuable input based on our experience. We can advise you on the best way to announce things so that your donors do not drop off and clearly understand your vision going forward).

  4. Statement about WOM's philosophy regarding Stateside visits. When you are on furlough or visiting the States, you can add a statement in your newsletters and emails that will help your donors understand better. A statement like this will add credibility to your Stateside visit. Here is a sample:
  5. World Outreach (my home office) believes that Stateside visits are a healthy part of mission work. They encourage supporters to keep sending their gifts during these times. Why? Because during my visit, I will be staying in touch with our mission team in XXXXXXX (your country), planning future outreaches, and working on increasing our ministry income. I believe this trip is an important part of our long-term ministry goals. Your continue prayers and support make this ministry possible – Thank You!
  6. Keep WOM updated if you anticipate changes. As stated above, if your start anticipating a big change or new ministry role or location, WOM will go with you! Our Missionary Agency will continue to serve you as long as you are committed to some form of ministry outreach. All we ask is that you keep us in the loop before an announcement goes out. We would rather hear about your new plans directly from you rather than through a newsletter or donor calling us (which, believe it or not, happens at times). If we are included, we can share wisdom keys to help you have a successful transition. If you do things wisely, you should not see a loss of support (which can happen when abrupt changes are made).

  7. WOM's service for you will continue as normal. You can rest assured that our service will continue as normal during these times. Deposits will go out on time -- and you should keep reviewing your Deposit Reports that we upload every two weeks. Another good idea during these times is to increase the number of personal "Thank You Notes" that you send to your friends by email and cards.  Maintaining a personal touch strengthens your support-base.
SECTION 24: MISSION WORKER’S ID CARD
In some cases, having an official ID card can help you get the assistance that you need. For example, presenting a “Mission Worker’s ID Card” may help with things like --

  • Airline humanitarian & non-profit rates
  • Waived or reduced baggage fees
  • Admittance to hospitals, prison facilities
  • Customs & Immigration inquires
  • Discounts on large purchases, and more

  1. We provide these cards upon request only.
  2. Request your card by simply emailing us: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  3. Provide a clear individual photo of yourself (not a family photo).
  4. If married (and your spouse wants a card) then please send both individual photos.
  5. Our Office Manager will design your card and then email it to you.
  6. It will be your responsibility to print your ID card and have it laminated in a local shop of your choice. (Office supply stores, FedEx type stores, print shops, etc.)
  7. You will need to request a new card at the beginning of each year. They expire 12/31 each year.
  8. Here are two samples to give you the idea --

SECTION 26: TOOLS FOR DRAWING CROWDS, CHURCH-PLANTING & ADDING MEMBERS TO EXISTING CHURCHES
Here are some powerful tools for drawing crowds! These tools can be integrated into just about any form of ministry that you have. Do you want to plant churches? Do you want to add people to an existing church or launch a community Bible Study? Here are practical and affordable tools that will help you accomplish your goals.

  1. Reading Glasses Day! - www.RestoringVision.org is the largest provider of new reading glasses to developing nations. Imagine what an inexpensive way to draw crowds can do for your ministry! When you sponsor a "Reading Glasses Day" hundreds will come and be helped with free reading glasses – and they can be connected to your church, evangelistic campaign, etc. They only cost 50 cents per pair – so you can purchase a bag of 300 for only $150! Think of it! You can literally change lives and improve the quality of life by restoring people’s ability to see clearly, work with their hands, read the Bible again, and in many cases help them become employable again. 1) Watch this 3-Minute Video to catch the vision, 2) Listen to this Telephone Interview to hear details, and 3) Print this PDF to explore this opportunity and get started. You can use the event to help your Church grow, add people to your Bible Study, and reach many for Christ – all while helping restore their vision!

  2. The Jesus Film Project! - www.JesusFilm.org offers films in 1,828 languages! This is one of the best websites that you can bookmark – and one of the best Apps that you can download as a mission worker! Many church planters have used the Classic Jesus Film as their "go-to" tool to win new believers and start churches, home churches, and Bible studies. There is the "Classic Jesus Film" in 1,828 different languages, Children’s films in 175 languages, Magdalena in 195 languages, and much more! Mission workers are using everything from telephones, to TV sets, to big screen projectors to draw crowds. There are also discipleship films that are offered. If you want to draw crowds, consider using the Classic Jesus Film which is a full-length film running 128 minutes. One WOM mission worker used this film in remote tribal areas, and reported that the people were so moved for Christ, that many began crying and throwing spears at the screen trying to defend Christ from the soldiers! This is a powerful resource for evangelism, church planting, and discipleship. Find it in the App store on your phone. Their website and App will guide you in all the various formats that they offer in tons of languages. [Note about projectors – Google "digital projectors." With modern technology, you can literally connect your computer or tablet to a digital projector and show the film on a large screen in homes, buildings, or even outdoors. Projectors come in all sizes and powers, so find the one that is right for your purpose and budget. Click Here to get started in your search for projectors. If you are trying to reach really large groups, other items you may need are power cords, sound system, lights, and generator.]
